[Sadira Carter]

Sadira selected a nice, sunny spot, then plopped down by the lake. She reached into her bag and pulled out her sister's last letter, which also contained a new photo of her nephew. She sighed happily, looking at the photo. Felix was so sweet, it was unbelievable. Too bad she spent so much time away at school and couldn't see the little boy more often. Becoming an aunt at her age was quite exciting.
Sadira sighed again, contendedly, and lay back in the sun, closing her eyes against the brilliant glare.
Several minutes later, she opened her eyes when a shadow fell across her face.

"Hi there." she said, smiling.

Emili let out a huffy breath and asked herself why she was going anywhere near the monstrous lake by her school. Since she could remember she had been afraid of water, even the water that swirled at the bottom of the sink made her uneasy. She just knew she needed some time away from the masses of the school and the area around the lake was usually a good place.

She continued trudging forward even though she felt nauseous the closer she got. Without meaning to she started to tremble and finally told herself it was far enough. She tucked a long blond lock behind her ear and took a deep breath, noticing someone else was nearby. Even though she didn't want to be around everyone one on one wasn't bad and the distraction would help her nerves.

She walked up to the girl laying there and smiled brightly, her hair moving gently in the breeze. "Hi!" she responded to the other girl. "Do you mind if I sit here?"

"Hi there", Sadira said, smiling and sitting up. "Go ahead, have a seat."

The girl standing in front of her was familiar, in fact, she was in Sadira's house and year. They had never really talked, though. Sadira wasn't even certain what the other girl's name was.  Emma, maybe?
Looking closer at her, Sadira though she looked a bit uneasy.

"I have to admit, I don't really know your name. I'm really sorry." Sadira felt embarassed, not knowing someone who was in her year and house.

'Am I really that blind and focused on whatever to not even notice the people around me?' she thought worriedly.

[Emili Reid]

"Thanks!" Emili replied gratefully, almost surprised. She shared a lot of classes with the other girl and even though she seemed nice Emili knew they'd not really talked. She had half been expecting a negative answer even as friendly as the other girl seemed.

She took a seat next to her and crossed her legs while leaning back on her arms somewhat. Her posture screamed relaxed but it was very deceptive, being near the water still had her on edge. Especially that squid. She had nightmares sometimes that it would drag her to her death. "Oh!" she responded at the other girl's inquiry. She knew she forgot something. "I'm Emili Reid, nice to meet you. What's your name?" Emili made sure to meet her eyes, remembering a speech her brother once gave about proper and polite communication customs. It wouldn't due to be rude. She didn't really have friends in her own house, having alienated many of them with her bold ways, so it would be nice to have someone to potentially hang out with.

"I'm Sadira. It's nice to meet you, too." She smiled, glad that Emili wasn't offended.

"It's so nice today, I can't believe we're the only ones out here. I had expected the lakeside to be swarmed." she continued, speaking what was going through her mind to get a conversation going. Pauses at this stage of getting acquainted were usually really awkward.

"Not even the squid seems to want to sunbathe, even though it's out on most sunny days." She looked at Emili, waiting for the other girl to reply. It was interesting, meeting someone who had been around her for so long for the first time.

"Is it usually?" Emili responded unable to believe that so many people put themselves out here. She shuddered and rubbed the goosebumps on her arms. "I'm terrified of water so I avoid the lake as much as I can." She stared into the dark depths of the water that were swirling gently with an invisible push and pull.

"Maybe it found something better to do," Emili said hopefully. She thought it probably found a snack, hopefully not in a student, but she didn't know much about the daily habits of lake squids. As a promise she avoided anything that had to do with water, even though she usually tried her best to learn about all animals.

"It really is, lots of students come here to relax or study or meet friends."
Sadira looked at her curiously. "Why are you terrified of water? If it's not too bold of me to ask." She didn't want to pry, but this information did make her curious. It wasn't something that she had heard before.

"The squid is very gentle, I don't think it has ever hurt a student. Maybe it's too warm for it today. Have you heard that the Slytherin common room supposedly has a window looking into the lake? It must be fascinating to see what goes on in there. But knowing the common room is seperated only by some glass from the lake is pretty freaky."
