James had dragged Gabe down the orphanage because he had already been down here earlier that day, he wanted Gabe to see the little girl he had met. Well, he only really saw her, but he waved at her. He wanted to really meet the young girl, and plus, Gabe spoke about wanting a family. James wanted one too, this was their way of getting once because neither Gabe or James could have one and talking about..other options was not an option. So James walked right up to the lady from before, and told her, "This my boyfriend, the one I spoke to you about earlier this morning." James wanted to take that little girl home, and give her as much as he could! He was a foster kid for a long time, he didn't want that little girl to go through any of the hardships he did growing up.
"Gabe, babe, you'll love her. She's adorable and I haven't even talked to her yet. I really want to give her a home, you'll love her too when you see her." James said confidently, Gabe was his rock when he needed him, his everything on a bad or a good day, James wanted to meet this little girl with Gabe by his side. Turning back to the lady, "Please can we meet her now?"
It had been a normal day at the orphanage for the little brunette that was usually sitting somewhere in timeout by this time of the day. She was constantly being told that her behavior was "bad" and that she needed to work on correcting it, but exactly what all that meant was lost on her. A translator that actually spoke a language children could understand was needed, especially when dealing with the Matron of the orphanage who seemed to believe children could comprehend higher vocabulary. But instead of sitting in a chair in the corner of the Matron's office like usual, Sasha found herself running about in the large yard with the other children, accidentally stomping some flowers in the flower garden as she made her way through the area.
Jeanine Waters was one of the staff at the orphanage, and though she did spend time getting to know the children, her main job was to speak to potential adoptive parents and guide them through the process. It had come as a great surprise she was ashamed to admit when a young man had earlier expressed interest in Sasha Bell. The little girl was lovely in appearance, no doubt, but Jeanine had known her to frighten off more than a couple of potential adoptive parents with her antics. Why the child insisted on making a scene whenever other people, particularly adults, came round, was a question she had already asked herself at the minimum two dozen times.
Surprise was etched on her face when the man she'd spoken to early walked up to her and introduced his boyfriend. She vaguely remembered him mentioning the other man - admittedly, she hadn't paid much attention to his words early because she hadn't expected him to actually come back. "It's nice to meet you. I'm Jeanine Waters," she introduced herself, holding her hand out for Gabe to take hold of. From the expression on James' face, she could tell that the man was very excited at the prospect of becoming a parent, though whether he knew what that entailed, especially with a child like Sasha, was very unlikely. "I can see you're very eager. There are actually a few matters we need to discuss beforehand. Paperwork, interviews, home studies. Usually, we'd go through the whole process before allowing you to see the child, but in this case...I'll make an exception," she said, smiling at the two as she gestured for another worker to come over to her and told the man to go retrieve Sasha.
"Perhaps you'll change your mind," the woman muttered to herself as they waited for the man to return with the little girl. It didn't take long for the child to appear, though she was alone rather than with the man that Jeanine had sent to fetch her. Looking down at Sasha, Jeanine asked, "Where's Mr. Watkins, Sasha?" The little girl gave a small shrug and replied, "Somewhere in the vegetable garden, I think. There was this huge worm and it kept getting larger - it wasn't my fault!" she protested when the older woman sent a suspicious glance her way.
Though she was sure that Sasha had something to do with this worm, even though the little girl was unable to do magic and even if she were, it would be forbidden with her not being of age, she put aside those thoughts and returned her attention to the two men. "Sasha," she said, lightly placing a hand on the little girl's shoulder, "this is Mr. James Halsey and Gabe. They're considering adopting you." Sasha was silent for a moment as she stared at the two men as if she were appraising them like pieces of art. "That's fine, I guess, but which one's the mummy?" she asked innocently, receiving a loud sigh from Jeanine in reply.

The fact that James had dragged him away from his spot on the couch was enough to put Gabe in a bad mood, but the taller male said nothing about it once he'd found out that James was dragging him to an orphanage of all places. Apparently James didn't give a damn about what he'd said earlier that week. Sometimes he wondered if James even bothered listening to him. Probably not. Brown eyes looked to the woman named Jeanine as she introduced herself. "Gabriel Sykse, it's nice to meet you," he said as he shook her hand. His gaze went back to James who was talking about the little orphan he hadn't even had the pleasure of really meeting. Gabe ran a hand through his hair before he looked back to the woman in charge as she introduced the little girl who had returned alone.
Gabe had to admit she was quite adorable, and her question amused him to no ends. He glanced at Jeanine when Sasha spoke of a worm that had continued to grow and grow. Looked as if someone was going to Hogwarts when they came of age. Gabe knelt down and gave the young girl a smile. "Hello there," he greeted. "I'm Gabe," he introduced himself in a friendly tone. "Either one of us could be the mommy, but I think James would be suited better for that job," he said with a small chuckle. He held out his hand to her and waved her a bit closer. "So, how old are you," he asked. As upset as he was about James bringing him here, Gabe adored children and he wanted a kid, but not right now, but at the same time he couldn't turn this little girl down if she was willing to give them a chance.

Smiling at the women, James nodded he was ready to get through the process right away, he wanted to give the little girl he saw a home. A child that small shouldn't be without a home or a family, James needed one growing up and he got Hunter. That little girl will have James and Gabe, he would make sure of it. "I'm willing to start whenever you're ready. Is there anything you need from us? I can apperate home and back no problem..." James smiled at Gabe, they wanted a family, so how else could they get one? They had a guest room, they could turn it into a child's bedroom with no problem. "We have a two bedroom apartment, we use the 2nd bedroom pretty much as an empty room for people when they come over. We can turn it into a kids room in a few days.." James said as if to persuade the women.
When he said they could meet the girl, James looked to Gabe with a smile, "I..You're mad." He said as to his boyfriend as the women walked away to get the child. His smile died down, this is what they talked about. They talked about family. Why wasn't Gabe just as excited? Maybe James shouldn't have come here by himself, maybe he should have brought Gabe with him the first time, but James hadn't planned on coming here at first, really, he didn't. "I-" When the women started to come back, James shut up and grinned all over again when he looked down to the girl.
Laughing a little, he nodded, as the girl spoke about the worm, "Hey, the worm is probably more interesting big anyway. James watched as Gabe introduced himself, and rolled his eyes, elbowing the older man lightly. Jerk. "I'm prettier than he is. I'm James, how would you feel about having two daddies?" That was honestly James's biggest worry about adopting, they might not want to two dads, instead of a mom and a dad. It wouldn't be right to force them too in case Sasha didn't. "You have a pretty name Sasha. We have a room at our house, it's empty right now, but I was thinking if everything works out, you could help us decorate it and turn into your own."You could have a room of your own. James didn't say it out loud, but going through foster care, then ending up at Hunters, it was the most important thing to him. He knew a lot people felt the same way.
Sasha nodded in agreement with James' comment about how the worm was probably more interesting big than when it was small. "You should have seen it! Lucy got so scared, but I wasn't. I'm not scared of anything," professed the child proudly, though this was most certainly one of those things that children say that aren't true. "And it wasn't me who did it...not this time," she added, cutting her gaze towards Jeanine until the woman looked down at her and the little girl looked away from her, staring back towards the two men once more.
"Seven," she answered Gabe's question first, used to having potential adoptive parents come to the orphanage and ask her several questions. Sometimes she wondered whether her mommy and daddy had come by one time and asked questions, only to have her answer them wrong, so they didn't recognize her. It was one of her many made up possible reasons for why they hadn't come back to take her home, because she'd managed to convince herself they were only leaving her at the orphanage for a temporary period of time. "Then I'll have three daddies!" exclaimed Sasha to James when he asked how she felt about having two daddies.
Even though she found the child to be unmanageable most of the time, Jeanine's heart did go out to her when it came to the topic of her parents. Most orphaned children cared very little for the parents that had gave them up for this age and were very eager to have new parents, but not this one. She looked to the two men, giving them a small smile as she said, "Sasha's been here at the orphanage from birth practically. Her parents...it's hard to squash the dreams of young ones." Jeanine had tried to subtly imply that the parents of the little girl were not in the picture and never would be without outright saying it and upsetting Sasha. She watched as a bright smile appeared on the child's face and she leaped excitedly in the air. "A room! My own room! Please let me go," begged the girl, looking once again at the older woman.
Having her very own room was something that she had never had - it was impossible with so many other girls at the orphanage - but it sounded very exciting. "Maybe. There are some things I need to go over with Mr. Halsey and Mr. Sykes. Why don't you go back out and see whether Mr. Watkins has taken care of the worm," asked Jeanine, trying to coax the girl into going back outside so that she could discuss matters with the two men without her in earshot. "No!" the little girl shouted defiantly, grabbing hold of one hand each from the two men, "I want to stay."

Gabe decided to let his talkative boyfriend speak for the both of them. There was no way they would be able to talk at the same time without contradicting each other at some point. He shrugged when James pointed out that he was mad. "What does it matter," he asked with uncaring brown eyes. He wasn't going to argue here. Yes, he was mad about being dragged here without warning, but he'd deal. As his boyfriend talked about how they had a two bedroom apartment and could get all the paperwork, Gabe nodded lightly. They could fix the room up in no time at all, as long as James didn't get pulled into a mission that was.
When James joined him in speaking to Sasha he chuckled lightly. "James thinks he's prettier than me," he told the little girl. Seven? How had a seven year old managed to be so adorable? The brown eyed man wasn't sure, but he wanted to take Sasha to their place so she'd have a place to call home. Especially when she seemed to perk up about having her own room. Gabe looked to Jeanine. "We understand," he said with a nod before he looked to the little girl who had said she didn't want to go. "How about I cut you a deal," he asked. "You go play while me and James talked to Jeanine, and when we're done, me and James will come play with you for a few. If everything goes well. We can talk all day if you like. You can tell us your favorite color, how you want to design your room, all sorts of things."
He then looked Jeanine. "What do you need to know about us in order to make this happen," he asked. Where this may have been a very irrational idea, the thought had been in his mind for a long time. He wanted kids, Sasha seemed like a sweet girl and if they played their cards right everyone would be happy at the end of the day.

When Sasha grabbed their hands, James smiled and grabbed the little girl, picking her up in his arms. He moved his arms around her waist, holding her in front of him. When Gabe started to talk talk about them hanging out here for awhile after they started talking, James grinned, he wanted to disagree, not wanting to let the little girl go yet. He debated a little in his head, before he turned back to Sasha, "We'll be super quick about things okay? You can go and see what's going on with that..uhm..worm." James wrinkled his nose, he didn't want to an encourage the young girl playing with bugs, but he didn't want to tell her not be a kid either.
He set the little girl down so she could go off and play, even though James wanted to bring her with, he would just have to make things go quickly. Turning back to Jeanine, James was ready to get started. "I have no problem going home and back, it'll only take a few seconds if you need any paper work from there."
Sasha considered the two men for a moment before shouting, "I think you're prettier," to Gabe. Perhaps it was the slimness of his face or the gentler smile that made her see him as "prettier" than James. Although she didn't want to leave at all, after have both Gabe and James speak about how they would have time to talk later, she gave in. "Fine! But you can't leave without me. It's a promise," she said before darting from the area, heading back towards the large yard behind the orphanage. Whether the worm was still tormenting other children or not was something she was actually curious about.
Once the little girl was gone, Jeanine was able to switch into case worker mode. "I'm going to need personal records. Your birth certificates, first off. Any sort of licenses you might hold. Criminal records, the like. There's a lot of paperwork you'll need to read and fill out. I'll go over Sasha's file with you and do a home visit to check that your home is fit for a child before we can place her with you," she said all of this very quickly, having repeated it many times before, though usually not all at once. Most adoptive couples filled out the paperwork long before they had chosen a child and they did it progressively, over several months. "It's all a bit overwhelming, I know, but it'll be worth it," commented Jeanine with a smile, adding very quietly to herself in a whisper, "At least I hope it will."

Gabe smirked with victory when Sasha shouted taht he was prettier. "Yep, she's a keeper," he told James with a laugh. He then nodded as Sasha claimed it was a promise before leaving them to figure out all of this paperwork crap. Gabe swore that paperwork was the bane of his existence. It was so much signing and reading and rules and regulations and all that crap. No wonder he'd stuck with music. No one ever had to worry about that stuff when they were in the music industry. He wrote his own music, set up his own gigs, and all of that jazz. The wizard glanced at Jeanine when she started telling them about everything they'd need.
The first thing that came to mind was all the crap he'd gotten into trouble with over the years at the mention of criminal records. He'd never been to jail before, but that didn't mean he'd not had the authorities brought in about fights during a show and things of the sort, but what worried him most was the fact that James was a Death Eater and probably a mile long record. Second was the fact that he was sure the house looked like shit. Maybe they should go home and clean and then come back later. He didn't really know. So much trouble for one little girl. "We can handle it," he told Jeanine. "And of course it's worth it. Sasha seems like a sweet kid and clearly James and I are attached to her already, so we're willing to do whatever you ask in order to take her home." His smile was warm.

Smacking Gabe's arm with the back of his hand, James looked back to Jeanie as he explained what needed to be done. James really should be worried about criminal records, but he wasn't. He had never been caught or arrested for anything he's done, so what could this women possibly find about him? Shrugging, "Alright, I'll get home really quick and get those papers, I'm super sure how the interviewing thing works, would you do us both or just separate? Because it would just speed things up if you did Gabe while I was gone, then me when I get back." James wasn't trying to sound rude, but he did want to get everything going now. Thinking about the apartment, the apartment was clean enough in James's opinion. James had been the maid when he lived with Hunter, that routine just transferred over.
Think about a few cleaning charms will make it better when he pops home for the papers. "Okay so I'll be back." James kissed Gabe's cheek, before apperating off to their house for the papers. Casting the few charms in the kitchen and the bathroom, he glanced the guest room to make sure nothing was left behind from previous guests. Finding one of Logan's sippy cups, James toss it in the sink after a few cleaning charms. Grabbing all the papers that Jeanie talked about would have taken so much more time if he didn't have magic, James just summoned everything to him.
Apperating back to the orphanage with the files in his hands, he hoped they could at least bring Sasha to the house so she could see it. She's know that they were for real on keeping her, James knew getting your hopes up was too easy, but when that hope walked away, no matter how many times, it still hurt like hell. Smiling as he came up to Jeanie again, "Everything on me and Gabe." James wasn't worried about Gabe's record either, because everyone did stuff as a kid, James got into trouble as a foster kid the muggle world, stealing more than anything else. But the wizarding world never really cared about the muggle part of his life.
