Adrian knew he should be studying. Exams were just around the corner after all. But lately he'd been so exhausted that he couldn't help himself. He found himself in the common room without any distractions and decided to take solace on the couch. He would have napped in his bed but his dorm mate was in there making too much noise to sleep. He kicked back on the couch with his long legs stretch the end, even hanging off slightly.
He had just started to snooze when he heard the tell tale sound of someone entering the common room. He was so irritated that he might hex whoever was walking through those doors, even a female. But he kept his hand from itching to his wand in his pocket and gritted his teeth.
"I would suggest high tailing it out of here before I find the energy to get my wand and make you leave." He threatened to whoever had entered, he hadn't reopened his eyes. It was an empty threat. He had no intention of moving. He just hoped it was a first year that was scared enough to listen.
Marissa had a bright smile on her face as she returned to the Slytherin common room. She'd been out in Hogsmeade with her girls and it had been a great day. They'd had loads of fun in the village and had returned just in time for dinner. Only they'd left one girl of their group back in the castle as she'd excused her self. She'd said she needed to study. Well, someone had to do the work, Marissa thought, when she wanted to copy essays. Still the girls wanted to have her with them for dinner and Marissa had wanted to drop her cloak in her dorm and exchange her heels for some other shoes as her toes were getting cold in the drafty castle.
Only when Marissa entered the common room, the smile on her face froze in place, a mask remaining as she saw who occupied the couch. That Rinaldi guy bothered her every second of every minute of every day and she really didn't want him to ruin her mood now. She was ever so glad that the carpet muffled the clicking sound of her heels and that he had his eyes closed. She wasn't even past the first couch when he spoke however and Marissa cursed quietly to herself. His words astonished her greatly however and the astonishment made her answer instead of just keep her mouth shut and ignore him. At least she told herself that. "Well, well, Rinaldi, I'd never thought I'd ever hear those words coming from your pretty lips. Finally got the message, did you?" she taunted him for his previous efforts. Nose high and with perfect grace she stalked further through the common room, pleased with her comment.
Adrian swore under his breath when he heard a familiar voice. How long had he spent trying to get Marissa Rochester to cave and go out with him? Much too long. And with that comment he'd probably just set himself back a few months. He swung his legs off the couch and stood, giving her his signature smirk, the one he saved just for her.
"Well, Miss Rochester, had I known it was your fine ass disturbing my sleep, I wouldn't have been so rude." He said, taking a step or two towards her. He made an obvious pass or two over her as he took in what she was wearing. "Don't you look fifty shades of gorgeous? I have to say, this color is very partial to your skin." He ran his index finger over the shoulder of her cloak. "Don't tell me you have a date? That might just break my little heart." He gave her a fake pout. Although if it were true he wouldn't hesitate to remind whomever was brave enough to ask her that he'd staked his claim. He went behind her back and threatened a few lads who thought they could swoop in and take her hand. He wasn't having that. One day, he was going to marry this girl.
Marissa released an annoyed breath as Adrian decided to stand once he'd recognised her. Knowing he'd probably stalk after her if she made a dash for the dorm and find him waiting for her return, she chose to just get it over with now and, placing her hands at her hips, watched him as he approached her.
She just scowled as he explained his reasons for his former speech. Well, if that wasn't obvious. He properly wouldn't have hesitated drawing his wand for real had it been a first year. Still she couldn't deny that deep down, very deep down she was pleased at his compliment when he called her gorgeous. But she'd be damned if she let him know anything of it. "Well, the Sorting Head made a good decision then, putting me in Slytherin. It must've known that the colour suits me," she said easily with a raised eyebrow. with effort she surpressed a shiver as he ran his finger over her shoulder. However a evil grin spread over her features as he asked if she'd had a date. "I can't tell you how tempted I am to just say I have, but honestly, it's really none of your business, darling. You might hunt the poor guy down, kill him and place the body in the entrance hall for everyone to see," she mocked him with a falsely sweet voice. It was some kind of sick pleasure of her sometimes, to have this might, this power over him by not giving him what he wanted. Sometimes she even enjoyed their little game a bit.
"Now, if you'd excuse me," she announced, before she walked on towards the girls' dorms.
Adrian smirked at how annoyed she was to see him. He thought it was amusing since she was going to marry him one day. She just didn't want to admit it yet. He was arrogant enough to believe that she wouldn't say no when it came down to it.
"Yes, I'm sure that's the only reason the hat placed you in Slytherin. Couldn't possibly be your brilliantly cunning personality." He teased with a grin. He narrowed his eyes at her as she tried to upset him before merely shrugging. "That's probably true. Whoever he hypothetically is, he wouldn't be good enough for you." He told her honestly. He wasn't going to hide the fact that he'd do anything to get her to be his.
"So where are you off to looking so beautiful?" He asked, as she turned away from him. He was screwed if she went into the girls dorms. He hated that the guys weren't allowed in there. Not that he would sneak in to peek at them like some guys would. It would just make things more convenient for him. "Are you finally going to accept the fact that you're in love with me and do me the great honor of taking you out?" He quirked an eyebrow at her with a smirk.
Marissa couldn't quite stop the unladylike snort that escaped her as Adrian even admitted that he would show off the dead body to set an example for others. "But you are good enough for me?" she asked, not trying to hide her incredulous laughter. "Well, someone has a high opinion of himself. Someone should puncture your inflated ego, Rinaldi, if you ask me," she told him before she turned. "None of your business!" she snapped over her shoulder as he asked where she was going. She was seriously considering staying in her dorm and forgoing... No, that idiot wasn't worth missing a meal for. In a show, hoping to distract him she unclasped the brooch that held her cloak in place and then let it glide down her arms before she caught it. She spun around however at his next words, a murderous expression on her face. "When, when are you finally going to accept the fact that I couldn't care less about you?! Merlin's pants, give a girl some rest from your pestering! When will you finally get it! I won't go out with you! Ever!" she screamed before she ran up to her dorm and slammed the door. Hard.
She threw her cloak across the room but it didn't have the desired effect of making some noice or breaking something. Instead it sailed down in the middle of the room where she picked the garnment up, more frustrated than before. This game was all fun and all if that guy didn't always ask her out. It had her so close to really losing her temper every so often. She threw herself on her bed and screamed in her pillow. At least this made her feel a little bit better. Come on, don't let him ruin your mood, she told herself. She removed her shoes in exchange for ballet flats and moved a brush through her hair a few times before she pulled back the hangings around her friend's bed. It seemed homework had exhausted her as she was sleeping peacefully. The girls would just have to bring her some dinner should she wake up before morning.
Marissa breathed in and out a couple of times, preparing herself to go down in the lion's den, or rather snake pit, again and put up with that annoying boy once more as there was no doubt he'd still be there, waiting for her to make her appearance at the bottom of the stairs where she was now.
Adrian's lips twitched at the sound of her snort, even if she was laughing at him. He gave her a smirk. "Of course I am. I'm perfect for you. You just haven't figured it out yet." He told her with a wink. He actually liked how stubborn she was, though. Made things more interesting for him. The chase was always the best part. Not that he'd ever tire of her fiery attitude. "Many have tried, all have failed." He teased with a grin. His ego was a bit big but he didn't care. Arrogance was just apart of who he was. He wasn't going to change that for anyone, not even her.
He watched with a raised eyebrow as the cloak slipped off her shoulders and he got a better look at her. She really was gorgeous. He wanted nothing more than to have her in his arms. The urge was so powerful he almost acted on. Until she started yelling at him. He narrowed his eyes at her as she stormed up the stairs and flopped back on the couch, defeated.
He hoped she wouldn't stay up there all night, as she seemed to have somewhere to be. However, he could have pissed her off so much that she decided to cancel her plans. He gritted his teeth as he stewed over who she might be meeting. What if it really was a date? Or she was meeting a guy and it turned into a date? Or maybe she was just meeting friends and they were all about to laugh about his pathetic attempts to win her over.
There were times that he wondered why he put in all the effort for a girl that had no interest in him. A girl that wasn't likely to have any interest in him. It was pretty ridiculous to think that after all this time she was just going to change her mind. He sat up on the couch as he heard footsteps coming down from the girls' dorms and hoped it was her. As she stopped at the foot of the stairs he remembered, like he always did when he saw her. He didn't want to chase anyone else and he wasn't going to. One day he'd make her say yes.
"You know," He started in a low voice. "If you just said yes once and we went out and it wasn't up to your standards, I would probably back off." He said, although he knew it wasn't true. He would just use a different tactic.
He looked almost peaceful, almost a bit adorable the way he lay there on the couch, if she imagined that he was sleeping, knocked out cold or anthing so he couldn't make a single sound. She imagined she would like him much better if he shut up once in a while and didn't say such stupid, obnoxious things all the time. Because it wasn't that he wasn't fit. Even she couldn't deny that he was attractive, no matter how hard she tried. But the cooing of the girls got to her eventually. Only she wouldn't let them wear her down when it came to Adrian's constant begging for a date.
Marissa scowled when Adrian began speaking. "You know where the catch is? First: Life is short and I don't want to waste a minute of it. Second: you'd probably back off? That doesn't garantee me that you'd really do it. And to be honest, I doubt it, that you'd finally leave me alone. So my answer is no. Now if you don't mind, I'd like to go to dinner," she said, speaking down to him, before she stalked past him. She was determined to reach the girls without much more of his pestering or he'd probably end up with a bloodied nose. She wasn't above muggle fighting techniques if they helped defend herself. And she was sure Adrian would want to keep it quiet if a girl beat him.
Adrian stared at her in frustration. She just didn't get it, did she? She was going to say yes eventually, even if she didn't know it yet. His confidence didn't allow her to deter him from what he wanted. He always got what he wanted, one way or another. And there was no way he was letting this goddess of a woman escape him.
"I say probably because I know you'll be stubborn. But I can be pretty romantic when I want to be so I know you'll enjoy yourself, even if you won't admit it." He said, sounding cocky. He shrugged it off. "Fine. Go to your dinner. But I promise whoever you're meeting won't be nearly as interesting as I am, sweet heart." He smirked at her, silently hoping she wasn't meeting a guy. He had plans for her anyways. Eventually she was going to cave to him.
