Vanessa had smiled in greeting at Zeke and had intended to answer his question before Jagger did it for her. She directed her gaze towards the Slytherin, both eyebrows raised. The question had obviously been asked of her, not in general, yet he'd felt the need to answer. It didn't bother her much as people tended to do it now and again, but at the same time it did. She supposed it was the feminist in her, fueled by her mother, that didn't like having a male presume he could speak for her. "Reading something new now? I did do a bit of research into that Dorian Gray book," she whispered, smirking at Zeke and completely ignoring the presumptuous male that had spoken for her.
Though she wasn't really paying attention to the interaction between the two, she could see the expressions on the faces of her brother and his friend. A feeling of suspicion about the nature of their relationship permeated her thoughts; they were both far too "smiley" to be just friends. When the Professor told her that she'd have to choose between either being in a group with her brother and the Gryffindor or with a fellow Ravenclaw and the nuisance that was Jagger Shafiq, her shoulders slumped and she sighed. If she were a bit more paranoid, she'd have thought Professor Burke was out to make this class miserable for her.
"He is most definitely a prick, but I'd rather work with him than you and Mr. Goo-Goo Eyes here. Besides, I'll have Zeke, at least," she told her brother, deciding to work with Jagger and Zeke. Even if Jagger did nothing but attempt to get her to go on a date with him or flirt, she was sure to be able to complete the assignment with Zeke's help. She stood, picking up her Potions book she'd already set out and grabbing the back of her chair to drag to the table in front of her. "Oh, and it's Vanessa for you, pretty boy. Only those that know me on a personal level can call me Nessa. That can always be taken care of, of course," the blonde teased her brother's friend before moving to the other table.
After positioning her chair on the other side of the table from where the boys sat, she sat her book down and flipped to the page with the instructions for the potion they'd be brewing. "The Invigoration Drought. This should be simple enough," she said, not speaking to anyone directly.
