James floo'd over to his mentor's house, he didn't really have a plan when of what he would do when he saw Hunter, but he just hoped that this would go over well. He had been back a few days, and it was pretty few days being around the tension in his own house. Gabe was upset with him, and James wasn't sure how to the fix the mess at all. He wanted to make everyone happy, but everyone wanted different things that were the opposite of each other, how do you please both of them? "Hunter?" James called out from the living room, casting a cleaning spell on himself to make sure he didn't track anything into Hunter's house. 

Sitting on the couch, he rubbed his palms on his eyes, maybe he could at least fix things with his idol. Gabe didn't seem to be letting up with him, and James hated that he couldn't do anything without over thinking it, he couldn't come to his boyfriend and not think about it. James just didn't want to anger the older man any further. Thinking it over again, for the hundredth time, James wondered if he should have ever told Gabe about his life, about what he does, about any of it. 

Looking up when he heard movement, he'd try to make peace with Hunter, make up for making him upset before asking for his advice on what to do with Gabe. "Sir, you told me to come by.." Really, James offered and wanted to come over to make amends, but that was harder to say aloud.

Hunter had been more worried than he'd like to admit when he received the letter from James about him going on his missions. He was worried about him making a stupid mistake and getting caught. He worried that Donovan would catch wind of it and be unimpressed with his childish actions. Maybe he'd just be punished, maybe he'd be killed.

In truth, Hunter was probably overreacting. But he was very protective of James, more so than he'd even realized himself. Until he read that letter. A thousand scenarios filtered through his mind and none of them were any good. When he heard from his, for lack of a better word, son...the relief he felt was visible. He demanded the boy come see him as soon as possible and finally found himself some sleep. It was late in the evening when he woke up to a familiar voice calling his name. He pulled himself out of bed, limping slightly as his joints attempted to wake up. He snatched a shirt off the floor and was walking into the living room as he tugged it over his head. His eyes fell on James as they adjusted to the light and he blinked a few times.

"What the fuck is wrong with you?" He asked groggily. He slumped into his favorite chair, opposite from the boy he cared about. He was like family to Hunter. The elder of the two ran his hand over his face in frustration. He knew he was just cranky and pissed from the boy making him worry but he couldn't help the bitterness in his tone. "What made you think running off like that was a good idea?"

James frowned watching Hunter, it wasn't like he had purposely gone out of his way to upset everyone. He actually had gone out to do the opposite. It hurt that Hunter thought he wasn't ready. "I wanted to show you and Ben I can do this. I'm sorry I worried you..but I was up against muggles. I wouldn't have gotten hurt even if they had caught me." Which James was sure about, he hasn't even thought about getting in trouble once he actually got to the muggle world. After the first kill, it was like a piece of his past was gone. After the second it was another relief. James took a breath, rubbing his eyes, "I'm sorry. I'm fine. I.. I didn't meant to worry you."

And really, he hasn't meant to. James just wanted to prove himself to everyone, including himself. For every muggle that died, it was like a memory died with them. Every bruise or broken bone, every hurt and heartache, every parent that passed him up in adoption. "Gabe hates me." James wasn't even sure if that was true, but it sure felt like that. After their fight, James had gotten into another fight and that was a whole other issue. He looked up and snorted, giving a half smile, "Old man. Getting heart attacks and strokes already. Need me to buy you a walker too?"
