Alex wasn't sure how this was going to go down, he hadn't told Josh about this before he did it, but he did it anyway. There was a children's league for Quidditch, so Alex went and signed Josh up without really talking to his son about it, he wasn't really sure how it was going to go down, sure if it was a children's book club or something, he knew that Josh was just get up and get excited that he'd have other people to talk to about his stories with. Knocking on Josh's bedroom door, he opened it walking in, holding the children's broom behind his back.
"Hey buddy, so I got you something..." Alex pulled out the broom showing his son what he got him, he waited a second before he moved to the next part. "I was thinking me and you could go down to the park and play around on these things? You know get out of the house." Even though his eldest son was only eight years old, Alex had an issue down talking when it came to Josh, the boy used words and said things most eight year olds didn't. So Alex just talked to him like he was anyone else, he'd tell Josh after they got to the park.
"So how about it?" Alex worded it so that it was optional, even though Josh was advanced for his age, he was still only a kid.

Josh was inside his room, facing his study table, reading. His papa had already briefed him that his dad was planning to make him take a few sports one of these days. Josh tried to reason with his papa but the man had asked him to see it as a favor to make his dad happy. Josh resigned himself to whatever it was his dad had planned. He just hoped that it would not hurt him or worse, get him killed in the process. He was now reading a book about the basics of psychology when THE knock finally came. "The door's open." he called out, not taking his eyes from his book.
Then his dad came in, Josh turned to look at his dad who showed him a children's broom. Josh should have seen this coming. Luckily enough, he had read a few books on basic flying and safety measures. Then his dad explained to him the purpose of the broom being there and Josh bookmarked the page he was on and sighed. "Sure dad, why not. I think my brain had demanded a break half an hour ago." he said, smiling to his dad. He had to be careful to not tell his dad that his papa had spoken to him first about his dad's plans.
Josh wanted to snort when his dad tried to give him an option. He already knew it wasn't an option. "Dad, what would you do if I said no? Since you made the request with a chance to be rejected and all." he asked his dad. Josh got the feeling that his dad had problems talking to him for some reason. Josh just didn't know why.

Taken back as soon as Josh agreed to come with, Alex grinned, he couldn't help but be a little excited that Josh actually wanted to. His eldest was still a kid, and Alex wanted to spend time with him and do more with him, so he couldn't help but be a little excited. "Okay awesome. This is a kid's broom, maybe if you can handle this one I can get you a better one. You know, that'll let you go higher. This one is just for practice, I'm sure you'll get it down." Alex went to the closed by the doorway to grab his own broom, he would probably take Josh for a ride on this one before he let Josh just take off on his own.
As he was pulling out his broom, he turned back to Josh, frowning a little at the words. Alex had expected Josh to not want to, so really he just hoped he could convince him to at least try it. With the question being asked though, Josh had to have known that Alex thought that he was going to say no. Casey had to have talked him to it. Damn it all. Alex just wanted to be able to do this on his own, Casey and Josh were everything alike, Alex barely saw himself in Josh, he wanted to do this one on his own. Alex understood that Casey only talked to Josh because he wanted it to work out, but in a selfish way, Alex wanted this. So in the end he shrugged to Josh's question, "I'm not really sure buddy, I'd probably have put the broom back and asked you on another day." Alex honestly wasn't sure what he would have done, he would have gotten a little irritated, but he was pretty sure he wasn't going to act out on that.
"Why don't you go put on something with sleeves, it's gonna be chilly once you get up into the air."

Josh bit his tongue to not laugh at the surprised look on his dad's face. He then stood up and accepted the beginner's broom and inspected it. "Dad, its called a beginner's broom. I've read the theory behind flying. However, theory is a whole lot different from application." he said honestly, a bit worried that he might actually fall. It scared Josh but he knew his dad wouldn't left him get hurt... much.
The look on his dad's face was definitely amusing. Alex Dean Andrews was predictable... to Josh that is. He laughed out right this time. "Dad, I didn't know you wear your feelings on your sleeve. Its written all over your face. And you have nothing to worry about. Papa only told me you have a surprise for me. I worked out the rest on my own. I was just waiting for you to ask. Your always with Chelsey so I thought you'd be with her like usual." he said with a smirk that his Papa had said was a mini version of his Dad's own.
When he was told to change into something else, he nodded and did so. He ran to his closet and pulled out a thick blue and black long sleeved shirt that had a picture of a raven on the front. His papa bought it for him a while back. He then changed his pants and wore thick socks just in case. After five minutes, he was ready and dressed. "Ready.

Mumbling to himself, "Didn't realize I needed to be on guard around the eight year old." He took a deep breath through his nose, trying to couch himself in his head that he was not talking to Casey, but he was talking to Josh. Which really, it was hard to tell some times. Raising an eyebrow at the fact his eight year old was over analyzing him, he just laughed, there was everything about this kid that screamed Casey.
Picking up his son, he tossed him over his shoulder, "Okay Bud, here's the deal, your eight, your gonna act eight." He swung himself around in a circle, with his eldest over his shoulder, he smiled when he did it. Alex made sure to stay far enough away from all items that Josh's head wouldn't hit anything, and it was just to loosen the kid's abilities up a little and act like a kid should. "We're not gonna act all grown up, that's for the grown ups."
He didn't let Josh down until he got an answer and when he did that, he tossed his eldest on to the arm chair, giving him the same look he gives Casey when Casey get into his listing all facts brainy moments, "We're going to have fun and try to not make your dad into a book to over read. Park, food, ice cream, can Josh Andrews do that?" Alex's tone spoke of it like a challenge.

Josh chuckled help but chuckled when he heard what his dad mumbled to himself. "Ha! Papa said I'm more you when I turned tables around. Which took me a while to understand what it meant." Josh said he then laughed. But before he could say anything else, his dad picked him up and he was now hanging on his dad's shoulder. He laughed at his dad's antics. "Dad, don't drop me." he said in between his laughter.
"Nu-uh... I'm young in body but old in spirit and mind." Josh reasoned as he laughed. He knew his dad had a hard time with him because he was beyond the normal eight year old. But Josh couldn't help be what he was. He was just... smart. That's all.
He was then placed on the armchair. He smiled and nodded his head when his dad gave him a rundown of what they'd be doing. "I'm Joshua Andrews, son of Alex Dean Andrews. Of course I can do it." he said confidently that he was sure he got from his dad.

As soon as Josh's description of himself came out of his mouth, Alex wanted to laugh, oh god he did. Those were definitely Casey's words, Casey was smart, but Alex was the manipulative one. Casey and Alex could balance each other out most of the time, but Alex couldn't go up against an eight year old like that, no matter how much of a kid genius he was. Alex mouthed 'old in spirt and mind' part to himself, as if he hadn't actually heard those words. He finally raised his hands in surrender, "Well my apologies oh wise one."
Holding the children's broom out to his son, Alex smiled at the macho-ness his eldest was trying to give off. It was good too see something in him that he didn't normally go around doing, Alex wanted him to be confident in everything he did. When he moved out of the way for Josh to pass him, he opened the door for his youngest to walk outside. They would just walk to a local park in the neighborhood, he didn't want to apperate and he figured Josh would be more comfortable if he was closer to home. That way if he didn't want to do it anymore, the house was only a walking distance away. He'd apperate them to get dinner, but right now, they could walk.
When they got the open field that was only a few blocks from their home, Alex had been carry his own broom, he turned to Josh, "Alright so we have two ways we can do this, you ride with me for your first time, or I can get you set up on yours and I'll stand by you until you got it covered. How you wanna start this?"

Josh knew he did ood when he made his dad laugh. It was a rare thing for Josh to be able to do so. When his dad teased him, he laughed himself. "Your forgiven, oh son of Adam." he joked as he repeated a lie he read from a book he couldn't remember which.
He was ready. Josh knew he could do this. He had his dad with him so he'd be alright. Josh then ran pass his dad d jumped a bit around. He'd have his dad all to himself and he didn't have to share with his papa and the monster also known as his little sister.
Josh looked up at his dad and listened. He left his smarty self at home. Well not all but most of it. He didn't need to be smart since he had his dad for it. "With you first!" he yelled his answer. He wanted to ride with his dad as his first.

Grinning, Alex took his son's broom and set against the gates, in plain sight that he would be able to see it once they were in the air but not where anyone passing by in the park would be able to see it. Grinning as he held out his own broom, he put it in front of Josh first, "Okay, just swing your leg over, get comfortable." Alex stood behind Josh, holding the the larger broom so that Josh could get on it, before he kicked off the ground. He had already put more than enough charms on this broom in case Josh did get on, but just in case, he put his arms over Josh and hands in front of him holding the broom, too keep his son safer.
They were about 30 feet off the ground, when Alex just let Josh get used to the height before he was going to get any high. The children's broom would only get about half this height, so he didn't need to worry too much. "How this height so far Bud? Higher or we good?" Alex didn't want to freak his eldest out for his first time on a broom, if Josh was ready for more, Alex could do more.

Josh was paling a bit but he needed to be brave. His dad was here. He did as he was told. He found a comfortable position and held on the broom. "Just don't let me fall dad. I don't want to die yet." He meant it. He wanted to go to Hogwarts, study, be the best, graduate, find a job, GROW UP! He wanted so many things and dying was NOT one of them.
When they were up, he felt so great. He felt like he was the tallest person in the world! "Dad! Do that Wronksi Feint! Can we? Can we?" he asked. He had read the trick and he wanted to see how it was done!
