Octavius Eliza Caverly
Age: 14
Birthday: April 3rd, 1984
Appearance
Octavius is 5'9". He has pale skin, dark red shoulder length hair, and ice blue eyes. He has a heart shaped face with a long, thin nose, bow shaped lips, and sharply arched eyebrows. He's overly thin with a body defined by the sharp angles of his bones. He has a light birthmark on the underside of his wrist that looks vaguely like a star. He has one scar that runs from his right hip to the edge of his ribs.
Character HistoryOctavius is a pureblood of Scandinavian and Russian decent. He grew up in Sverdolvsk, Russia where the living conditions where very poor, muggle or wizard. The conflicts within the country meant they had limited food and resources and the threat of civil war was always at the backs of everyone's minds. His childhood was somewhat dreary. He grew up in a muggle neighborhood due to the restricted access to the rest of the world. He was always a very shy child with overly strict and protective parents. His older brother drowned when Octavius was five years old and from that day forward he was scarcely allowed to leave his parents' side. The majority of his time was spent in their small library or playing with their lone house elf Mitzi. He was very curious about the outside world but his parents were traditional purebloods and refused to let him interact with the muggles. When the "Autumn of Nations", the series of revolutions that overtook all of the communist European countries in the late eighties and early nineties, started him and his family fled the country. They first travelled to the Russian wizarding world but as a family "fallen from grace" they got no refuge there. It took them three weeks, but eventually him and his family got asylum in England. They lived in a small house in a wizarding neighborhood and he was finally allowed some of the freedom he'd always been denied. He was very curious about the outside world and often went exploring in the woods near their house, which is where he acquired the scar on his stomach. He got it climbing a tree; he slipped on one of the middle branches and fell a few feet, where a branch entered his stomach and traveled roughly five inches before it broke off. Mitzi saved his life but after that he was rarely allowed outside, and never without supervision. When his Hogwarts letter came he was overjoyed and frightened at the same time. He'd never been around children his own age, and the few older children he'd known back in Russia had been unnecessarily cruel. On the other hand, it was a new opportunity to learn and explore the world, to experience all the things he'd never been allowed to. It took much begging and pleading but eventually his parents agreed. Since arriving he's been too timid to make more than casual acquaintances but he's positive that with a little more time he can make some life long friends. His grades have been above average but not spectacular - English is his third language and it's not always easy to keep up with his studies when he can only understand half of the words. Nevertheless, he's enjoying his time at Hogwarts and is excited to see what will come.
Family HistoryHis mother, Valeriya Kasoglad, was once the heir to an old and distinguished Russian pureblood family. From childhood she was raised in all of the Olde Arts, betrothed to Arkady Istomin. When she was sixteen she had an etiquette tutor, Mathias Caverly. Mathias Caverly came from a little known pureblood family from Scandinavia. They didn't have any titles or money to their name and Mathias was the last of his family alive. He made his money as a traveling tutor for young pureblood heirs, teaching them the things all good scions need to know. While he taught Valeriya they slowly fell in love and before either knew it had started an elicit affair. It wasn't long before Valeriya fell pregnant with Aksel, Octavius' older brother. When Valeriya told her family she was immediately disowned and her and Mathias were left to raise a child on their own - no place to live, no money to their names, and a tarnished reputation throughout the Russian wizarding world. They got married shortly after and she gave birth just a few months later. Using Mathias' meager savings they bought a rundown house in a muggle neighborhood that Mitzi, Valeriya's personal house elf since childhood, spent months fixing up. Mathias became a school teacher while Valeriya ran a small bookstore. Two years later Valeriya fell pregnant again and gave birth to Octavius. A mere five years later the seven year old Aksel drowned in a river near their house. His body wasn't found for another two weeks, having drifted down river to a town a few miles away. The experience was very traumatic for both Valeriya and Mathias and they became very protective of their youngest child. When the revolution began picking up Mathias wanted to leave but had a very hard time convincing his wife to leave her home behind. They sought refuge in the wizarding world, which they eventually got in England. Mathias is back to being a tutor and Valeriya works as a secretary in one of the lower key ministry offices.
Parents: Mathias Caverly and Valeriya Caverly nee Kasoglad.
Siblings: Aksel Caverly (deceased).
RP Sample:Octavius sat out by the lake, knees to his chest and book resting just in front of his feet. He was reading an experimental text he'd found in a dusty corner of the library on the possible affects of combining runes with the Draught of Living Death. It was only a few chapters long but he was thinking about adding to it... "What do you think?" he spoke to the squid in the lake. His mother would kill him for playing around with something so dangerous though. Maybe in a few years then. He sighed.
