Eamon stood outside the Slytherin Common room, knowing his way down since he had met up with his brother so many times before. He didn't really like coming down here, but he didn't want to ask Nolan to meet him else where either. Standing by himself, standing back and forth from his toes to his heels. Eamon had already grabbed one of the older Slytherin's asking him if he could get Nolan for him, and he didn't know if the older boy did or not though. Eamon sat down against the wall, sitting indian style on the floor, pulling out his wand to draw pictures in the air.
He kept a look out for his big brother, he didn't want to be by himself, he would have asked Will to get Nolan, but he was also inside the common room. He was kinda glad that his big brother was in the same house as his best friend, that way, he figured that would make Nolan happy anyway. Looking to the doors every time he heard them open, he wondered if other boy had told his brother. Nolan wouldn't keep him waiting out here would he? What if Nolan was busy and couldn't come out?
Frowning, he didn't want to bother Nolan if he was busy. He went to wipe away his picture that he drew in the air, and stood up disappointed, he would just come back again later.
Nolan had been sitting in a corner of the Slytherin common room, attempting to study while repressing the laughter that was begging to erupt from the antics of his mates. Though they could all be right prats often, he still enjoyed the presence of their company. Besides, he could be a prat himself, and he knew that. Just as he was about to give up his slight effort, one of his housemates, a boy in the year below him by the surname of Avery, walked over and said that a little Hufflepuff was looking for him.
The words Hufflepuff and little boy were all the information he needed to know it was his younger brother. Most of his housemates knew the younger Fawley, if only for the fact that he was in Hufflepuff house and not Slytherin like Nolan or their older sister had been. Sometimes, still, he wasn't sure how to feel about that himself. His father had been very angry, he remembered, when Eamon was sorted in that house and even more so when he learned that Nolan has disobeyed his orders and kept up the good relationship with his brother.
He exited the common room, his eyes latching on to a little boy that looked forlorn. "What's the matter? Has someone said something again," asked the brunet, immediately assuming that some other kid had said something to Eamon. He'd tried to intimidate others into not doing that, but there were still some who liked to test their luck.
When Eamon saw his brother come out, he grinned shaking his head, "No. I'm fine, I just thought you..you were busy and you couldn't come out." Looking at the doors away, he pocketed his wand, since his brother was around now, he didn't really need it. He wished he was in the same house as Nolan, so he didn't have to worry about this. Eamon would be able to just go up to nothing would be there to stop him from just walking right up to his brother, unlike now. Eamon had to rely on others to get Nolan for him, and sometimes, Eamon would end up just sitting out here because no one ever did tell Nolan. "You didn't come out all that fast..and I was drawing pictures with my wand for a long time, and you hadn't come out yet, so I just thought that the other boy didn't tell you I was here..or maybe you were too busy to hang out right now."
Eamon worried that Nolan would get tired of Eamon sometimes, because who wanted to hang out with their kid brother? Really, Eamon wasn't as funny or as smart as Nolan's older friends, and Eamon knew that. So he felt bad sometimes pulling Nolan away from all that, but he didn't know how else he would see his brother. Nolan was graduating this year and Eamon would come back to school by himself, so he wanted to hang out with Nolan as much as he could before that. Who knew if Nolan would stay at home any longer than he needed to, that meant Eamon would be alone at home too. "You weren't busy were you?" Eamon said looking up at Nolan, he would have hugged his big brother, but he didn't think Nolan would like that very much.
"Uhm.. Nolan, I don't know if father will...let me, because I want one really bad. And lots of kids have them..and I was uhm.. will you ask father if I can have a cat? Please? I mean..he likes you." Eamon asked nervously, he wanted one really badly, because everyone had a pet and Eamon wanted one too. He'd rather have something more playful, but they weren't allowed at Hogwarts. So he'd have to wait until he was grown up to get something like that.
It was unfortunate that many of his fellow housemates shrugged off other students, easily forgetting that a request had been asked of them as they went about whatever they were up to. He couldn't do that himself. It would weigh too heavily on his conscience if he didn't do something that was asked of him, even if he hadn't said 'yes' in response. How all the others could do it and not feel pangs of glut whenever they again saw the faces of those who had requested aid in the corridors baffled him. He could only wish to have that sort of nonchalant attitude, though, he thought, he was very good at pretending that he did indeed have such an attitude.
"I was just doing some studying for NEWTs, but to be honest I wasn't getting much done. Not with all that was going on in the common room. You know how that is," he said, apprehensive as to whether this was true. He did not know just how many friends his brother had or whether the younger boy was socially active - admittedly, that had not been one of his top concerns the last two years. Seeing that he wasn't taunted or hexed had seemed more important. Now, though, Nolan was beginning to wonder whether Eamon would be alright at Hogwarts the next school year.
Nolan paused after Eamon had finished speaking, trying to imagine what his father would say if he asked whether Eamon couldn't have a cat. The response that was coming to mind was not favorable and he didn't want to have to let his brother down again because of their father. What caught his attention most was the comment that would have been missed by anyone else, the one that told Nolan his little brother did not believe their father cared for him at all. "I'll write him. He'll say yes, I'm sure," he lied, amazed at how natural it was by now when their father was involved. "And what are you talking about? Father likes me? Of course he does! I'm his son and so are you. Father loves you, the baby of the family," he teased Eamon, making an attempt to turn a joke out of the otherwise depressing comment. "You haven't been up to no good, have you? I'm honor-bound to turn you in if you have, even if you are my brother," said the brunet with a wink. His attempts at humor with his younger brother were almost always failures.
Smiling at his brother's attempts to comfort him, he didn't want to let Nolan down because Eamon was feeling down. He was the baby of the family, but he didn't see that as a good thing, he was sure that was why his father didn't like him as much as Nolan. Because they already had Nolan, they didn't need Eamon, but Eamon wouldn't say anything about this to anyone. His parents would only get mad, Nolan would just feel sad, so Eamon didn't say anything. He was grateful that Nolan was going to write their father, he looked around before he hugged his elder brother's waist. "Thank you." Eamon didn't have any friends really, so having something would have been nice. Especially since Nolan wasn't going to be with him next year or the years after.
"You really think that he'll say yes?" Eamon wasn't sure, he didn't think his father would let him, but Nolan was more liked than he was, so maybe he would for Nolan. These were the times that Eamon was sometimes jealous of his big brother, getting so much from their parents, but that feeling never lasted. Even when his parents didn't give him the positive attention, Eamon could always look to Nolan for it. "I've been doing good Nolan, I swear. And you wouldn't tattle on me." Eamon said with a grin, he knew Nolan would have his back more than turn it over to someone else. That was just saying Eamon ever did break the rules, he knew better than that.
"Nolan you'll do awesome on you NEWTs..You're too smart." Eamon didn't say out of admiration, he said it out of how well he knew his brother. Nolan was smart, Eamon didn't think his brother would ever fail something so important.
