Octavius wandered around the library, shifting through the shelves for books on the origin of runes, his newest pet project. He eventually found an old dusty corner of the library filled with history books no one ever bothered to read. Picking up one he thumbed through it, skimming the information for anything useful, only to stop in shock as he realized what this book actually entailed.
It was an ancient book, falling apart at the edges, with a title made up of odd symbols he didn't recognize. The words inside were just as strange but there were several sections translated into English in the margins - Olde English, but still English. This was a book detailing the history three thousand years ago! A time when muggles and wizards walked together and shared their knowledge! This book was priceless!
He sat down at a nearby table, bringing out a solid chunk of parchment. Then, quill posed above it, he began taking notes, translating the Olde English into modern English, and that into his native tongue, and bit by bit he gained a solid understanding of the events that had transpired millenia ago. It was the most fascinating thing he'd read in ages! Now all that was left was to translate the rest the text into something he could understand...
Acer had just came down to drop off a few books he took a few days back, he didn't want to get caught with them, so he had finished them already. Putting his books on a random table, he was just going to walk off at that point, but when seeing the library was mostly empty of people, Acer ducked to see if he could steal a book or two, unnoticed. He already had issues trying to keep his guilty pleasure to himself, but if other people actually thought he lived up to the Ravenclaw sterotype, his rep would be ruined! And Acer would not let that happen, so if he actually got accused of being a nerd of any sort, he'd end up decking someone, so he doubted anyone other than Almir would say anything. His best mate was his best mate for a reason.
Turning around, looking more to the outer part of the room than the isles, Acer felt his body hit a smaller one once turning. His first reaction was to grab the person in order to steady them, because not only did he just run into someone he didn't know, he ran into a smaller, younger person he didn't know. Looking down at the boy, Acer scrunched his eyebrows, he would have blamed the kid, but really he didn't want to make a show of being here..damn it. "Sorry, you good?" He asked, his hands still on the boy's shoulder.
Octavius flinched minutely at the surprised - and prolonged - contact. "Y-Yeah, I'm fine," he stuttered, nervous at having knocked into the bigger boy. "I'm sorry for knocking into you," Octavius mumbled. He carefully looked at the floor making sure not to look into the other boy's eyes in the process. He really should have been more careful; this is exactly the kind of thing that got him in trouble with the local boys back home. He was just too clumsy for his own good. He nibbled the inside of his lip until he felt a sharp pain - his way of jerking himself out of his head. Taking a deep, silent breath, he looked up into unfamiliar eyes.
Damn it, of all the things.. [/b]"Forget about it, I ran into you. You're kinda below eye level.."[/b] Acer didn't want the kid to go talking about him to his friends about him just being an ass, so he looked around the library before he could try to make amends with the younger kid, "Acer...uhm, you got a name?" Even though he was sure the other boy new his name already, it was rare that he met someone who didn't know his name at this point. He played Quidditch, he had had enough girlfriends, but he wanted to introduce himself to make sure that they could get somewhere before Acer walked off. Looking at the book in the boy's hands, he raised an eyebrow, "You're kinda young for that aren't you?"
Octavius felt a bright blush blossom across his face. He glanced down at the book he was carrying, wondering if there was an age limit on the advanced texts in the library, and deciding that if that was the case it would be in the restricted section. "You're never too young to learn about your origins," he replied vaguely. "Oh, umm, I'm Octavius by the way," he stammered again, his accent getting thicker in his embarrassment. Here he was, having his first actual conversation with someone in weeks, and he was being completely rude! Wait... Acer. I recognize that name from somewhere. He furrowed his eyebrows in thought before it came to him. "Oh! You're the one that plays Quidditch right?"
Acer smirked once he saw the blush, the younger ones were so easily riled up. He pursed his lips to the side, he wondered if he could leave now, but he was dumbass who started a conversation, sighing he moved to the window, sitting on the edge of it. "Well, Oct, it's gonna be hard to learn on your own. Are you in the class or just a nerd?" Acer asked with a raised eyebrow and smile, because hey, he already started talking, no point in avoiding it now. He doubted any of his friends would show up anymore, so he could still find a few books too. "What are you? A fourth year?"
Skimming over the shelf, he grabbed a book off the shelf that he remembered reading the book awhile back. Skimming through the language, he had attempted to teach himself the writings of the goblins, and it obviously hasn't been as easy. He had to check out several other books to learn the language. Snorting though towards the boy, "Yeah, that's me. Captain on the Ravenclaw team...you don't look like a player."
Octavius quirked his own eyebrow. "As far as I know history is required until sixth year." He froze. Oh Merlin, that was so rude! He's going to hate me now! "I'm sorry!" he blurted out immediately afterwards. "That was so rude of me! But no, this isn't required reading. I found it when I was looking for something else." He looked down at the book he was holding, hugging it close to his chest and squeezing it to the point his fingers turned white around the edges. He was so bad at talking to people. "And I'm a third year," he added quietly, almost as an afterthought. He was tall for his year so people usually thought he was older.
Finally taking note of the book in Acer's arms he tipped his head slightly, his eyes stuck on the title. Wasn't that Gobbldegook? Did Acer actually know Gobbledegook? Well it would make sense... he was a Ravenclaw. You didn't get sorted there by mistake. Eyes still studying the book he held back a chuckle, shoulders shaking briefly with suppressed laughter. "Oh no, I'm not. I've never really cared for sports." The very thought... he almost chuckled again.

Confused now, Acer tried to back track on everything that was said, and he hadn't been offended by the younger year, so he just smiled about it. "You're kinda...spazzy. Relax, if I was annoyed or offended by you, you'd know. So just..chill." Acer wasn't one for comforting very well, but Octavius was younger and trying to apologize for things that Acer didn't even understand, so it was getting weird for him, so he just wanted the other one to calm down, maybe things would be okay then. "So have you learned anything?" Acer asked honestly interested, because Acer had not gotten very far on his own.
Laughing at the boy's expression, "I said I tried, it's a lot harder than I thought it would be, so I gave in. It's nothing something I can teach myself, I'll have to get in a class or talk to someone who actually knows the language." Acer wanted to learn as much as he could before he graduated, he always mad when he couldn't learn something someone else did. Gobbledegook was one of the many things Acer couldn't teach himself. Looking at the boy up and down, he could see the lack of sporty in the younger male, "Mm.. Yeah, I can see that. I don't think I could be without it. Been in it since 2nd year."
Octavius' eyes grew wide and glassed over with excitement as he remembered all the precious information the book had to offer. "It's about when muggles and wizards lived together in peace. It lists the dozens of spells used to build the pyramids and gives proof that Cleopatra was a witch!" His voice was soft at first but steadily gained speed as he told the other what he knew. "Only about half of it is translated though," he frowned in thoughtful frustration. "I'm not even sure what language it's in. I've never seen runes like this before."
Octavius didn't particularly like sports, but he'd seen how difficult it was to be a good player and he knew it had to be even harder to practice and still have time to study. The other was obviously smart though, and he really admired the ability to keep up with both. "I've never understood why people like it so much," he admitted. "I'd be terrified to drop to my death. You must be really good though; I've heard they're really selective."
