Keri straightened up her desk before opening the classroom door the let one of her only students to recieve a detention into her classroom.
She thought about the entire situation this boy was in. Rumour had it he was in a spot of trouble with Miss Smith, a worthy adversary. He was bound to get into a fight with her. However, that gave him no reason to behave so crudely in he classroom.
When he arrived, the professor cleared her throat "Mister Collins, for the first hour, you will clean this classroom. Without magic." She waited for the argumentative boy to say something to her.

Not bringing anything with him, he figured if his Professor intended for him to write lines, she would have ink and paper. Connor didn't want to bring anything unnecessary with him in case she had other ideas, as it turned out, Connor didn't need his bag with him after all. Nodding when she told him what he'd be doing, he looked around the room for something to use, he just went to the back of the room and grabbed the old broom. Sweeping silently, the blonde boy was no longer really angry, but he didn't have anything to say.
Not wanting to say anything, because he wasn't quite content with himself enough to speak. Connor just went to do what he was told until he could leave, trying to think of something else other than Puplia. Really at first he did try to apologize to her. Then he did try to apologize to her friend, until he found out that Lucien really had been made a target. Connor didn't hate a lot, but he really hated that Slytherin girl. Pushing all thoughts to the back of his head, he started reciting potions and charm in his head, since he wasn't studying right now, he could at least try to see what he could remember without a book in front of him.
After he had finished sweeping the large room, Connor moved to put the broom away, he didn't even attempt to pull out his wand, he continued to move the broom so that he didn't have to look up at his Professor, "Can you summon me a towel and water for the desks?" Connor asked simply, he didn't know if was supposed to walk to the boy's bathroom for the water, but he didn't think his teacher would like him leaving the classroom repetitively.
Nodding, the older woman did a silent summoning charm. Then whispered 'aqumenti' "Mister Collins" she addressed him when his first hour was nearly up, "Now, you are to tell me exactly why you want to drop my class." She vanished the cleaning supplies with a wave of her wand and motioned for him to take a seat.
"What made you decide to behave so disrespectfully in my classroom Mister Collins?" She asked in a posh tone as she raised an eyebrow. After he answered that, she continued.
"Why did you find it appropriate to walk out of my classroom without being dismissed?" She held her tongue but nearly growled the words out.
Never in her entire teaching career did any student -mind a Slytherin or two- behave so disrespectfully towards her. She was fuming. He was 17 years old. He had absolutely no business treating an adult that way.

Looking up from wiping down one of the tables, Connor sighed when his teacher asked him a question. He didn't have a reason that she would take, nor did he have a reason that would make a difference to anyone else other than himself. It was quiet clear that his Professor didn't care about what he thought either, so he just shrugged. "I don't want to be there anymore, I suppose." Connor was a good kid, really, he was. He shouldn't have acted out like he did, but the fact was sometimes, things were just too much. One thing after another, it was just stepping stones to a break down. He just happened to be in class when it happened.
Not feeling like himself getting things confused or even speaking aloud in class like that, Connor didn't even have an explanation his Professor would accept. Getting upset once again about being pointed how he reacted in class, "I'm not a 2nd year Professor, being excused wasn't necessary nor would you have let me leave. If I had asked, you would have asked why, and honestly I didn't want to have that conversation in front of a classroom." Dropping the towel on the desk, Connor looked up at his Professor and clamly spoke to her as if it didn't matter, "You can fail me if you don't want to drop me, but I'm not stepping a foot back into your class. If you refused to drop me, I'm just going to study and pass the exam anyway, I'll get the credit even if you want to make this bigger."
It was a given factor, if she didn't drop him, he would just study else where during that class period. He wouldn't go to the class though. If she did drop him, he wouldn't have to take the NEWT anyway, so really it wouldn't make a difference in his life. Connor knew that, but in a normal day, in his normal self, Connor would have taken the class to give him one more thing to learn. One more challenge. Now though? He just wanted to get this little scene over with. "I don't think highly of the class or the Professor, so therefore, being in the class itself would really look like nothing more of a joke to keep me listed."
She arched an eyebrow. "You don't want to be there anymore? What caused this change of heart? I vaguely remember you signing up for my class at the beginning of the year." She wasn't going tinker this go, she needed a legitimate reason to let him go or else she'd have a bit of paperwork to deal with. Besides, the boy had always gotten high marks in her class, he was usually a joy to have around.
Her eyebrow creeped higher on her forehead "I"' well aware that you're not a second year. Being excused is necessary and if I remember correctly- correct me if I don't- that's the reason you got this detention anyways, am I right?" She wanted to keep this child her her class, because she believed he had a real ability, but she also wanted to make sure the child in question was in the best situation for him.
"Actually, no I wouldn't have. I'm not the evil wench you seem to think I am Mister Collins." She was millimeters away from giving him a third detention, he had absolutely no regard for his superiors.
"Mister Collins I'd suggest you mind your tongue when talking to your superiors. I also wish you luck with your new-found 'Filch' situation. As you will be spending much time cutting class to study. Arithmancy- believe it or not- will help you with many situations."
She narrowed her eyes before realizing the time was up. "Thank you for your insight, you will see me next Friday- and the one after- for your blatent disrespect of authority." She shooed him off and made to vanish everything he'd used. She also straightened up her desk and laid a vase if roses on the desk. "Goodbye Mister Collins."

"Issues with a girl in your class, I don't really want to be in the middle of it if I can help it. So my signing up really doesn't matter at this point." Connor let out a sigh through his nose, he didn't really think about issues with people in school because he didn't have any! Now suddenly he does, so things needed to change. Playing with the towel in his hands, Connor didn't even look up at his Professor wanting to do just about anything else than be here.
"Professor don't patronize me, is my next detention with you or Flich?" Connor finally asked, looking at the doorway to the classroom. Maybe he could meet up Lucien or head down to the libary before the night ended, a few minutes to think would be nice. Or not think. Puplia was planning something and it hadn't happened yet, so he didn't want to have to worry about it anymore. Couldn't he just tell his Professor?
As soon as his Professor told him once again that he had another detention, Connor decided that he wouldn't say anything. It was obvious to him that he wasn't going to get anywhere with the older women anyway, so he just nodded. What else could he be doing on a Friday night? He cast a cleaning charm over himself and his hands to get rid of the dust and such from cleaning.
Detention 2 Connor Michael Collins One Week Later...
Keri was sitting down rifling through some papers when the boy came in. She continued looking through the papers until she found it. "Connor Michael Collins- Year 7- Arithmancy Practice Exam" She stood up, passed him and laid it on a student desk.
"Mister Collins. This is a timed exam. You have approximately 30 minutes to answer every question on here. Afterwards we will continue our discussion from last week."
After thinking whilst he scribbled on the paper, she spoke once more. "Did you know, Mister Collins, that skipping class also calls for detention? It depends on you whether or not you wish it to be with me or Filch." She smiled like the cheshire cat. "Entirely your decision though.

Looking towards the paper's Connor raised an eyebrow, he had skipped the classes in between, but he had studied. Just like he told his Professor he would, he did the practice tests, he quizzed himself, he studied the meanings of the numbers, which was a little tricky to memorize, but Connor was sure that the time he took up trying to learn the information would pay off. "Is this something I missed in class?" Failing or passing would do nothing for Connor, he wasn't do the homework or anything else, this assignment wouldn't do anything for his grade.
"I don't care who it's with Professor, you and Flinch are the same thing in the situation. It's like having two cup, one green and one red, different colors but the same thing." Looking over his Professor, Connor hadn't even told Lucien about what happened in class, he was a mixture of embarrassed as hell and angry. He wanted to tell the Perfect everything, but he wasn't sure how the other boy would react. "I told you I'm not coming to class, I'm actually going to talk to my head of house if you don't drop me here soon. Because these detentions are purely because you refuse to drop me...and because we dislike one another." Connor tossed his bag beside the desk, picking up the papers to look over what his test would consist of.
"If I pass this, will you drop me or do I just get another detention?"

"It's something I'm assigning to you, so you may have a bit of extra help." Keri was actually trying to help the boy. She didn't want him to fail his NEWTs.
"I'm just wanting to know which will make you more comfortable." She closed her eyes. This boy was impossible. He spoke like an adult.
"I understand that you won't be attending my class. But speaking to your head of house isn't going to accomplish anything. Another professor isn't able to make the other drop a student. And these detentions are because you seem to have a habit of being disrespectful towards my students and myself. If I disliked you, I would assign all of your detentions to Filch. Not myself." She crossed her arms.
"Mister Collins, if you pass that, you will have the majority of your detention out of the way. I've only been assigning you detentions because of your complete and utter lack of respect for your elders." She then pressed her lips in a straight line before saying,
"You have thirty minutes to complete this exam. It will cover the basics of Arithmancy. A timer will go off when the thirty minutes are complete. You are not permitted to speak until you, or the thirty minutes aforementioned are finished."
"Are there any questions before you start Mister Collins?" She arched an eyebrow.

"Actually, being my head of house, he is the only one who can over ride you, well, other than the headmaster himself. He can remove me from your class, Professor." Connor pulled the papers to him, letting out a sigh, at least he was smart enough to study during the days he wasn't in class. The blonde boy was also pretty grateful that Lucien wasn't too upset with him, he would make sure not to keep things from the other boy again though. He hadn't meant to hurt Lucien, so when the Gryffindor told him that was the only thing that had caused him any disappointment was Connor's failure to tell him what was going on, Connor had a small panic attack. No lie or secret was worth loosing Lucien.
Nodding to the Professor, Connor picked up the quill to fill out the assignment given to him, he doubted with all his absences that this would even help his overall grade in the class. Frowning for a second, "Seriously?" Connor thought his Professor had just given him detentions because he was refusing to come to class. "If I had politely asked you, without giving you my reasons, to drop your class, would you have allowed me?"
"If I pass, will you drop me?" Connor was looking up at her, wanting to get a definite answer out of her, because if he she said no, he would talk to his head of house.
